About Clothes Helping Kids, Inc
Clothes Helping Kids, a non-profit organization has supported programs for children and youth in New Mexico by awarding annual grants since 2000.
How does Clothes Helping Kids work?
Telephone representatives contact residents in and around the city of Albuquerque, New Mexico requesting donations of used clothing and household items to be picked up door-to-door. These are reusable items that people no longer need or wish to give away. Clothes Helping Kids trucks pass through various neighborhoods daily picking up these scheduled donations.
In addition to telephoning potential donors, Clothes Helping Kids also has large drop boxes throughout the area where items may be placed at any time (see Drop Off Locations).
All donations are brought to local Savers Stores where they are sorted, processed and resold. The Savers Stores pay for the delivered goods on a bulk basis. The net income generated from these donations is awarded in grants. These grants support a wide variety of programs for children and youth that feature educational, cultural, and health-related activities that are appropriate for different age groups and educational levels. The programs are offered by various nonprofit groups: e.g., schools, community centers, crisis centers, or child-care centers in local communities throughout central and northern New Mexico.
Since we began, Clothes Helping Kids has awarded more than two hundred grants totaling over $1,500,000 to various community-based organizations. We thank everyone who has supported us in the past and hope that everyone will continue to donate their used, but usable, items to us. Our goal is to continue to support as many worthwhile programs in central and northern New Mexico as possible.
