About Clothes Helping Kids, Inc.

Clothes Helping Kids, a non-profit organization, began as a program of Save the Children, Inc. In 1999, CHK became an independent non-profit organization that supports programs for children and youth in New Mexico by awarding annual grants. We continue to support Save the Children also.

How does Clothes Helping Kids work? Telephone representatives contact residents in and around the city of Albuquerque, NM requesting donations of used clothing and household items to be picked up door-to-door. They ask for items that people no longer need or wish to give away. In addition to telephone calls, Clothes Helping Kids, Inc. also has large drop boxes in various neighborhoods where items may be placed at any time. 

All the donations received are brought to local Savers Stores where they are sorted and resold. The local Savers Store purchases the items from CHK on a bulk basis and the net income generated from these items supports a wide variety of programs for children and youth that feature educational, cultural and health-related activities--appropriate for different age groups and educational levels. Nonprofit organizations, such as schools, community centers, crisis centers and child-care centers, offer these programs in local communities throughout the state of New Mexico.

Since it began, Clothes Helping Kids has awarded more than two hundred grants to various community-based organizations and Save the Children.

Clothes Helping Kids, Inc. thanks everyone who has supported us in the past and hopes everyone will continue to donate their used, but usable, items to us. Our goal is to continue to support as many worthwhile programs in the state of New Mexico as possible.
